Sets out strategic direction that co-ordinates rolling stock, plant equipment, infrastructure, vehicles, works and buildings maintenance functions.
Negotiates contracts for the financing of spares and capital equipment and liaises with other departments as necessary. Draws up and submits draft agreements to the General Manager for approval.
Sets performance targets and manages performance for the branches in the technical functions.
Advises the board on policy matters relating to technical issues.
Providing leadership in the overall development, execution and management of a cost effective assets acquisition, renewal, maintenance and strategy.
Supporting operational effectiveness through ensuring a high level of equipment availability.
Providing strategic direction, focus and best practice to the Engineering function and to continuously review and monitor practices.
Involvement in the strategic business planning and reviewing process
Qualifications:
A degree in Engineering
Corporate membership of an Engineering Institution and be registered with the Engineering Council of Zimbabwe (ECZ) or similar body as a Professional Engineer
At least 10 years’ experience, of which at least 5 years should be at Senior Management level
Familiarity with railway operations is an added advantage
Ability to understand stakeholder needs and to follow relevant trends in the transport industry
A good understanding of procurement procedures and an appreciation of public sector procurement requirements will be an added advantage.
