Main Duties:
A financial advisor to the project team, the Assistant Accountant will:
- Maintain sound systems of internal control on the project
- Review project spend progressively in line with the approved project budget
- Control the project budget to ensure the project is completed within the approved budget
- Ensure project suppliers and contractors are paid on time and for certified work
- Prepare periodic project reports and financial forecasts (cost and cash flow)
- Ensure fixed assets coming out of the project are timely and accurately transferred from capital work-in-progress to the respective categories of the fixed assets register. This includes ensuring the correct level of asset disaggregation, establishing the correct depreciation method, useful life estimation and establishing the requisite link between the asset register and the engineering equipment register among other things
- Continuously review projects finance-related practices, policies and procedures for improvement
Qualifications:
- Degree in Accounting plus CIMA, ACCA, CTA or equivalent qualification
- Strong and demonstrable experience in variance analysis, reporting and internal control systems
- An understanding of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRSs)
- A working knowledge of SAP will be a distinct advantage
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Capital Projects Management experience is a must
