Overall Job Purpose:


The Finance Director is responsible to the Managing Director for the executive leadership operational management of the company’s Finances, ICT Resources and Internal Audit Functions of the group. In the role of Company Secretary, the Finance Director provides secretarial services to the Board and the Shareholders. The Finance Director formulates the company’s goals, strategies, and objectives, in the areas under his supervision and presents them to the Managing Director for approval. The Finance Director provides secretarial services to the board and provides support to the Managing Director in relation to the coordination and communication with the Board and the Finance and Audit Committee and in the area of governance and management of the group.


Main Duties



  1. Strategic Leadership;

    • Participate in providing leadership and vision in preparation and approval of group plans by management and by the board.

    • Supports the Managing Director by presenting business plans to the Board and by participating in presentation of progress reports to the board.

    • Participate in provision of leadership in implementation specifically setting up reporting structure and review routines that enable management to monitor progress and take timely corrective action to the benefit of the business.

    • Communicates goals, strategies and objectives of the Company effectively to his subordinates and the financial community to ensure full support by his team and other relevant external stakeholders in achievement of these goals and objectives.



  2. Financial Leadership:

    • Directs the budgeting and budgetary control process of the group

    • Monitoring of group gearing and group cash requirements

    • Providing decision support to management on the financial implications of key business decisions relating to the group investments and expenditure.

    • Financial reporting to management and the board



  3. Company secretarial functions including:

    • Preparation and coordination of preparation of reports to the Board for review by the Managing Director.

    • Scheduling board and finance and audit committee meeting, preparing and circulating board-packs and relevant minutes.

    • Presentations to board as might be requested by the Managing Director.

    • Company secretarial returns and submissions to the registrar and other stakeholders

    • Facilitating creation of Shareholder alignment on resolutions necessary in pushing business forward.

    • Preparing and organizing General Meetings of Shareholders.

    • Ensuring compliance with sound governance in relations between management, board, shareholders and other stakeholders.



  4.  Internal audit and risk:

    • Coordinating the identification and managing the principal risks of the company and implement strategies and program to reduce or eliminate these risks.

    • Coordinate the preparation and implementation of a risk based audit program ensuring that findings are comprehensively dealt with.

    • Manage the establishment of a control environment including appropriate employee attitudes, appropriately documented systems of internal control, adequate reporting structures and other systems that will enable the business to successfully implement business plans and achieve goals and objectives.

    • Institute appropriate risk management programs and establish and implements accounting control procedures



  5. ICT:

    • Oversee the preparation and implementation of an ICT strategy plan which the businesses can leverage on to gain competitive advantage.



  6. Administration:

    • Review group compensation plans to ensure that these are within the financial capabilities of the business

    • Develop and maintain a sound and effective organization structure, succession program and staff development program for the function.

    • Foster a high performance, collaborative, meritocratic and company values driven culture within the function.




Experience:



  • 5 years in senior financial management experience

  • Another five years in senior finance position with manufacturing experience

  • Strong business exposure


 


Critical or Technical Competencies Required:



  • Must have excellent strategic planning management abilities

  • Must have excellent process evaluation and analysis skills and understands the various business, finance and management related legislations

  • Must have excellent technical and practical skills in financial management

  • Must be able to develop, evaluate and interpret financial statements

  • Must have good communication and negotiation skills

  • Must have a thorough understanding of market trends and related dynamics and be able to advice management accordingly

  • Must be able to formulate and implement effective and efficient cost management strategies

  • Must have proven accountancy, budget formulation and budget control skills

  • Must be an innovative and business oriented person with a thorough grounding in business management and dynamics

  • Must have proven team leadership skills

  • Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office suit package

  • Must have knowledge of relevant accounting packages.
